Sophomore year is an exciting step in your progression through high school. PHS provides some great opportunities and experiences for our students to continue to "Become your best!"
Here is what you will learn about as a sophomore to become Career and College ready:
- conduct structured research on potential careers.
- identify roles and responsibilities, skills and dispositions, and education/training needed to pursue identified careers.
- learn how to create a resume in Xello and understand the importance of building resumes over time.
- explore the high school course options that align with personal career goals.
High School Planning
Having a plan is good idea, especially when it comes to your education. Stop here to get an idea of what you should be doing your sophomore year of high school. Each of these will better prepare you and build confidence as you take your next steps.

Sophomore Year
· Visit the School Counseling department; explore college catalogs, websites, and other college materials including financial aid information.
· Complete a credit check to make sure you are meeting all graduation requirements. You can do this within the "Course Planner" feature in Xello
· Maintain your resume of accomplishments and activities you have participated in.
· Stay involved in school and community activities, begin to take on responsibilities in those activities you hold a high interest in
· Re-evaluate your high school 4-year plan to make sure it meets college requirements (this should be done in your Career Portfolio)
· Try to complete most of your academic requirements by your junior year.
· Check in with your School Counselor!
· Take ACT ASPIRE (practice ACT); assess areas in need of improvement.
· See your counselor to take interest inventories to discover which career(s) might be a match for you.
· Attend the sophomore Career Connections day at LTC (all school field trip) to learn more about future career interests (spring).
· Continue to keep your Xello Portfolio up-to-date!
· Find out about summer jobs and how to gain the skills necessary to obtain one.
· Volunteer, travel, and create unique and varied experiences
· Initiate a job shadow(s) and/or visit Inspire Sheboygan in Xello.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities
At Plymouth High School, students are highly encouraged to be involved in extra-curricular activities. The wide variety of activities offered allows students to experience new things, explore interests, and learn how to become active members of the school community.
Extra-curricular activity involvement is also regarded highly in all post-secondary options (tech schools, colleges, military, employers).

Leadership & Summer Opportunities
Plymouth High School is notified annually about a handful of local leadership opportunities. Counselors share out information about these to all students through their Google Classroom. If a student is interested in attending one of the following, please reach out to your high school counselor.
